  • Your own Gyokuro Japanese Tea ceremony

The taste of this noble tea is very aromatic and mild. In Japan, such tea is only drunk on special occasions.

The official way to make Gyokuro is as follows:

    1. Use 8-10g of Gyokuro tea in a Japanese teapot (kyusu).
    2. Add 60-150 ml water. Very important is that the water should not be warmer than 50-60 ° C. when it is too hot, too many bitter substances are released and the tea will lose its flavor.
    3. Let the tea steep for 2 minutes and pour the tea into cups in the order 1-2-3 -... and back ... 3-2-1, so the taste of the tea is evenly distributed over all cups.
    4. Also try to "shake" the last teadrops from the teapot, those are the tastiest with the most flavor.

Gyokuro can be steeped at least three times, for the 2nd and later preparations add 1 minute steeping time.

Tips from Mr & Mrs Tea

After drinking Gyokuro, eat the tea leaves with some soy sauce or coarse sea salt.

A tip for the summer: such a high quality Japanese green tea can also "cook" on melting ice cubes.

    Extra information

The Japanese tea is grown according to European Bio regulations.

Gyokuro, means pearl dew and is considered the highest quality tea in Japan. The leaves for Gyokuro are only harvested manually once a year at the beginning of the season. About two to three weeks before the harvest, the fields are covered with reed mats. The amount of sunlight is then reduced by 80% so that the tea leaves produce more chlorophyll and amino acids. This gives Gyokuro its unique "umami" taste and dark green color. The leaves are steamed immediately after picking, after which they are rolled, turned and dried. The dried leaves have a deep dark green color and have the shape of a needle.
